Have questions?   Here are a few tips to help you get the most from this Resource CD:

Why can't I open some of the files on this disc?
There are several file formats on this disc:
  • GIF files are image files, and may be opened with any image program.  You may also view them using Internet Explorer and other internet browsers.

  • JPG files are image files, and may be opened with any image program.  You may also view them using Internet Explorer and other internet browsers.

  • TIF files are image files, and may be opened with most image programs.  You may also view them using Internet Explorer and other internet browsers.

  • DOC files are Microsoft Word files.  Every Word file on this CD has also been copied into a PDF (Adobe Acrobat) file so that anyone can open it using the free Adobe Acrobat Viewer.  A free copy of the Adobe Acrobat Viewer is included on this CD.

  • PDF files are Adobe Acrobat files.  Anyone can open these files using the free Adobe Acrobat Viewer.  A free copy of the Adobe Acrobat Viewer is included on this CD.

  • PPT files are Microsoft PowerPoint files.  You will need Microsoft PowerPoint in order to use these files.  PowerPoint is a program used to make presentations such as slideshows and meeting presentations.   The best way to open these is to right-click and select 'save target as'.  This will allow you to save the PowerPoint file to your hard drive, and access it directly through Microsoft PowerPoint.

  • PPS files are Microsoft PowerPoint Slideshow files.

  • XLS files are Microsoft Excel files.  The best way to open these is to right-click and select 'save target as'.  This will allow you to save the Excel file to your hard drive, and access it directly through Microsoft Excel.

I can't open some files on my Macintosh.
Files on this CD are, for the most part, Macintosh-compatible.  We converted all possible files to the Adobe (PDF) format so that they could be used by users of all operating systems, including Mac.  It is possible that a few files are not accessible on Mac products.

If you need an Adobe Acrobat Reader for Macintosh, please visit the Adobe Website.

I get page errors when trying to access some links.
Some links on this CD require you to be online on the internet.  For example the Guide to Safe Scouting link on the index page is a direct link to the National BSA website version of Guide to Safe Scouting.  In several cases, information is changed periodically, making a link to the original source more productive for you as a leader; in this case you'll always access the most current version of the Guide to Safe Scouting.

Can I get another copy of this CD?
Copies are available at the Portland Council Service Center.  The phone number is 503.226.3423, and the address is

Cascade Pacific Council  /  2145 SW Naito Parkway, Portland, Oregon 97201.

The cost is $5.00 each, which covers the cost of duplication.  We will sell any remaining copies after Pow-Wow.  We will not order another duplication run, so if you need copies, please order soon.

Can I make my own copies of this CD?
Yes, but PLEASE ASK IF THERE ARE COPIES AVAILABLE AT THE COUNCIL SERVICE CENTER FIRST (at $5 each; see previous question).  We made a number of extras;  it would make sense for them to be used first to offset the cost of production, and so that those that already exist do not go to waste.  Thanks!
