A Brief History of Peter Krahenbuhl

Peter Krahenbuhl was born in 1674 in Switzerland when the Mennonite movement had gained momentum. He was a cooper , Reformed, when he married Anna Wenger, born 1673, an Anabaptist. Due to their religious beliefs they were exiled in 1711 with their three young sons, John, Michael, and Heinrich, from Diessbach, near Thun, Canton, Bern to Sappemeer, Groningen, Holland. The Mennonite Encyclopedia has documentation, showing the family went down the Rhine and were welcomed in Holland by a strong Mennonite group.

Two of the three sons, Michael 1706-1783 and Heinrich 1704-1738 arrived in the port of Philadelphia, PA in Sep. 1727 from Holland. They arrived on the ship 'Molly' and were listed as Kryebiel and Krebiel.

Several generations of Grebills then Graybills raised families in Lancaster Co., PA, mostly around Earl township. They were prosperous, hard working people who raised large families and were an asset to their communities. Some of them migrated to Fairfield Co., OH and then spread all over the midwest.
